The Wine Bottle

Wall mounted wine racks essentially are used to store and organize wine, and are often elegant furniture pieces in themselves, with stylish designs that evoke and complement all the allures of wine. They may be constructed of any number of materials, but wood is typically favored because of the role wood plays in the taste of many fine wines. Wooden wine racks can involve any variety of wood species. Cedar is especially popular for its aroma, though purists object that the aroma can penetrate a bottle of wine through the cork. Generally speaking, wood is a favorite because it’s easily workable, with any number of different paints and finishes available for the creation of very distinctive looks, an important consideration for collectors who wish to display their wines in the best possible ways.

Many wine holders are made of metal, however, and although it isn’t as easily worked with as wood is, metal allows for a lot more uniqueness in design. As a result of the natural properties of the material, metal may be made into more fluid and flowing shapes, the most sinuous of which is impossible to render in wood. Metal racks have a tendency to be used for only short-term storage, and stainless steel wine holders have a tendency to be found in kitchens, matching several contemporary décors.

Wrought iron is another popular choice when it comes to a metal wine holder, and can be produced to seem really “heavy,” in the sense of “gravitas,” lending the wines held a sense of tradition, authority, and blue-blooded excellence. Due to the characteristics of iron, the most innovative shapes and designs are made using it.
